Supports the research activities of the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute (FDPRI) by leading program evaluation activities with an emphasis (.5 FTE) on a major UNCF scholarship program. Conducts research from conception to completion that is aligned with UNCF and FDPRI’s core mission; collects, analyzes, interprets and presents quantitative information; advises on results and findings and makes recommendations for policy, program and fundraising decision-making. Assists with the management of administrative and operative activities.

Responsibilities and Duties

Design and conduct comprehensive evaluation activities associated with the UNCF-Koch Scholars Program, which includes survey development and administration, conducting focus groups, assessing online curricula, analyzing and writing evaluation reports, among other tasks. Other duties include drafting and editing donor reports, collecting and analyzing data in support of program activities and demonstrating the program’s effectiveness through data.
Design surveys and conduct studies to provide up-to-date data and information on historically black colleges and universities, minority serving institutions, UNCF’s scholarship and internship programs, and policy-related issues of relevance to UNCF’s mission
Support the capacity of UNCF divisions, field offices, member colleges and universities to understand and position various report findings
Support the Scholarships and Programs Division by assisting with database design, analyses of and reporting on impacts of scholarship and internship programs
Provide expert consultation and collaborate on solving problems arising from UNCF policy concerns
Manage databases of the FDPRI to support various research studies required by the divisions, field offices, and member institutions
Manage research partners and oversee research implementation as relevant to programmatic learning agendas
Assist in the creation and mainstreaming of best practice resources, where appropriate
Assist in the development of proposals, donor reports and project budgets for FDPRI


Master’s degree required in the areas of educational policy, (preferably in higher education), educational psychology, educational administration or related field and at least two to four years of data management and/or institutional research experience
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) degree preferred
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and statistical software such as SPSS or SAS
Expertise in higher education research

Additional Skills

Ability to organize and manage information resources; extensive knowledge of research methodology, data analysis, and program evaluation using qualitative and quantitative techniques
Ability to analyze and interpret research data; and ability to juggle/prioritize multiple tasks
