Government’s Continuing Resolution


UNCF vows to continue fight for FUTURE Act

Today, the House of Representatives made available legislation that funds the federal government until Dec. 20, 2019. Also announced today, H.R. 2486, the FUTURE Act—which has passed the House and has overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers—was not included as part of the funding bill.

“After having worked so long for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and their issues to remain bipartisan, we are perplexed to be in the middle of a partisan ‘tug-of-war’ with our number one priority,” says UNCF senior vice president for public policy and government affairs, Lodriguez Murray. “This act is supposed to be mandatory funding to fulfill a national need to increase the number of minorities in STEM professions and that funding is now 50 days past its lapse. We will continue to vigorously fight for it, as our colleges need it and so do the students. We began a campaign calling for all who are in support of HBCUs and we will not stop until funding is granted.”
