Robin Byrd is the area development director for Virginia. She is responsible for establishing short-and long-range goals and conducting comprehensive, cost-effective annual fundraising campaigns. Byrd's area of operation supports 37 UNCF-member institutions. In addition, she serves as an ambassador for UNCF and is responsible for engaging donors and leveraging key relationships to ensure revenue goals are met.
Before joining UNCF, Byrd served Chesterfield County Public Schools as business and community partnership specialist and was an Ex-Officio Board Member for the Chesterfield Education Foundation. In this capacity she pioneered, cultivated and led annual division-wide program efforts, including a free teacher store for school system employees, connected thousands of community experts with students and staff members to develop project-based and service-learning programs and generated millions in financial sponsorship and in-kind donations to support academic achievement. She served in Petersburg City Public Schools as business education teacher and vocational program specialist for Career and Technical Education and Adult Education. Byrd spearheaded Petersburg High School’s first career fair, which led to job placements and internships for 300 students. She implemented the Educators in Industry program, placing K-12 teachers and administrators in a corporate work environment for summer externships, and introduced the Spanish curriculum as a second language for the city police department. During her career in education she has taught workforce development courses addressing soft skills, technical skills and certifications and been active offering intellectual development course for adults aged 50 and “better.” She also worked in the banking industry, rising from teller to officer of NationsBank of Virginia
The foundation of Byrd’s 36-year career reflects on a proven track record of building relationships, advocating for causes and addressing community needs. Her successes are in driving change and leading local and regional initiatives with businesses, non-profits, government agencies, academic institutions, faith and other community groups. She serves on a variety of executive boards and committees throughout the metro Richmond area. Byrd is a member of the NFBPA, Central Virginia Chapter, Virginia State University, Greater Petersburg Area Alumni Association, the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, and lifelong member of Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia. She was named Paul Harris Fellow by the Midlothian Rotary Club for Rotary International and awarded the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce CHAMPS Champion of the Year. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia State University and Postgraduate Professional License from the Virginia Department of Education. She and her husband, Charles, have one daughter, Charla married to Eric, who live and work in North Dallas, Texas.
