16th Annual Jethro Pugh Scholarship Invitational Thursday, October 02, 2008

Description: Please plan to join us for the 16th Annual Jethro Pugh Scholarship Invitational benefiting UNCF. This year's golf tournament returns to the beautiful Four Seasons Resort, home of the Byron Nelson Championship. The tournament features 18 holes of exciting championship golf as well as a poker run throughout the round that gives you a chance to combine your poker and putting skills all in one afternoon. The occasion wraps up with the Annual Awards Luncheon and silent & live auctions. Since its inception the Jethro Pugh Scholarship Invitational has raised over $500,000 for two local UNCF universities: Paul Quinn College in Dallas and Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX. Your support of this event will continue to help exceptional young people attend college and pursue their career goals.

25th Annual Walk-Fun Run-Bike Skate-a-thon Rescheduled Saturday, October 04, 2008

Description: The 25th Annual Walk-Fun Run-Bike-Skate-a-thon has been rescheduled to take place on October 4, 2008 in Grant Park lower Hutchinson Field. Registration for the event starts at 7:00 am and festivities begin promptly at 8:00 am with sponsor and award presentations, guest speakers, aerobic exercises and the start of the Walk immediately following. The fun continues all through the day with food and entertainment. This year's Walk-Fun Run-Bike-Skate-a-thon promises to be our most successful as we strive to reach our goal of raising $300,000! (Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult.)
There are many ways you can participate: Create a team and register for the event; register yourself, friends and family for the event; become a sponsor or make a donation to the event.


Event Agenda:
  • 7:00 am CST - Onsite registration opens
  • 8:00 am CST - Pre-event festivities begin promptly with sponsor presentations, guest speakers, aerobic exercises, and the kick-off immediately following.
  • 9:00 am CST - Race begins
    Race starts and finishes at Grant Park lower Hutchinson Field. Walkers and runners will travel north along lakefront to Randolph and back to Grant Park. Bikers and Skaters will travel south along the lakefront to 67th Street and back to Grant Park.


Route Rules: DURING THE WALK YOU MUST WALK ON THE OFFICIAL ROUTE AND OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNALS. BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR CARD STAMPED AT ALL CHECK POINTS. DON'T OVERDRESS. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES AND COTTON OR WOOL SOCKS.

Refreshments: Refreshments will be available at each check point and at the end of the route.

Safety: WHEN YOU FEEL YOU CAN'T WALK ANY FURTHER STOP!!!! TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE TO RETURN YOU TO THE STARTING POINT.

AEP UNCF 5th Annual Charity Gala Saturday, October 18, 2008

Description: The 2008 American Electric Power United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Committee will host the Annual "Le Jazz Hot" Charity Gala again this year benefiting UNCF?s 25th Anniversary Walk for Education. The 2008 Legacy Award recipient is Bob Powers, president, AEP Utilities. Velda Otey, last year?s recipient, will be the presenter. Powers has been instrumental in supporting AEP UNCF, serving as Executive Champ for UNCF for more than five years. ?Le Jazz Hot!? will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the King Arts Complex on Mt. Vernon Ave. from 6 - 10 p.m. The cost is $40 per person to attend this memorable event. There will be hors d'ouevres, door prizes, entertainment, a DJ for dancing, silent auction and a cash bar.
