
In honor of Black History Month, UNCF and Verizon Wireless have partnered to celebrate the achievements of African American students. In their continued support of Black History Month, Verizon Wireless wants to give qualified high school seniors a chance at up to $5,000 to further their education. The Verizon Wireless/UNCF Black History Month Essay Contest is designed to provide financial assistance to deserving students with permanent residency in one of the following states: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota or North Dakota.
Thirty-seven eligible students will be selected for the 2010-2011 academic year and will receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 each. Select students will also receive a personal technology make-over including an HP Netbook, a Motorola DROID cell phone and/or Verizon Wireless gift cards.
