Salute to Michael Jackson

In 1985, Michael Jackson co-wrote the humanitarian anthem "We Are The World" with his good friend, Lionel Richie. The single was performed by an all-star group of artists and upon release it became the biggest-selling single ever. More than 20 million copies sold worldwide generated over $63 million for aid in Africa and the U.S. — demonstrating to the world "what is possible" when people come together to support and care for others.

Michael Jackson's passing brought global attention to his powerful legacy of music, memories, and spirit of giving. It is a fact he supported more charities than any other celebrity during his lifetime, leading Congress to recognize his contributions in a Congressional Declaration.

Michael was also a generous supporter of UNCF and its students. He donated $1.2 million to UNCF from proceeds of his concert tour and gifted UNCF with a special benefit performance at Madison Square Garden. He also gave UNCF an endowed scholarship worth $1.5 million which has resulted in more than 500 students attending UNCF colleges and universities.

Today, Michael Jackson's endowment remains intact. For years to come, students will continue going to college on Michael Jackson Scholarships.
